While the smoke monster chased Terry and Patrick like they were members of Danielle Rousseau's science expedition on Lost, some of you may have found yourself wanting to put a curse on Alan Ball for this continued storyline.
I, however, liked the heartfelt scene where Terry told Arlene why he had to leave her and the kids behind. They both have been through so much and thought they finally had found some peace when they discovered their feelings for each another, but once again they were each set adrift in their quests for a normal life.
Two people who have never known a normal life, Sam and Luna, were thankfully still alive and on the mend at the outset here. I liked Sam's speech to Andy about not knowing what it's like to have someone want to kill you just because of what you are. The racial undertones of this show aren't always subtle, but they are always very poignant.
Andy was smart to let Sam tag along on his investigation. The two of them were like some supernatural version of Turner and Hooch, with Sam immediately proving his worth as he saved Andy's life. Tiny/Semi victory lap for me... if you recall I alluded to the guys at the gun shop as possibly being behind the Obama masks.
Jason didn't fall in with them yet but it looks like Hoyt will. So like I said...I was semi right.
Sticking with the four-legged members of the show, how great was it to see Alcide finally assert himself and announce his claim as pack master to J.D.? I knew we hadn't seen the last of Rikki and was glad to see her step up as Alcide's second.
Although, if they hook up at some point, I hope she has a king size bed for Alcide's sake. How funny did he look when he sat up in Sookie's bed, barely covered by her pink comforter?
He had that same look on his face like Josh Baskin did when he woke up and was too big for his bed.
Jason continued to have dreams about his dead parents this week. After he vowed to bring their killer to justice, his father tried to tell him about the only thing to fear. Now either Mr. Stackhouse was a big F.D.R. fan or he was trying to give Jason some vital knowledge in regard to the person who did them in.
So in the interest in being fair in addition to my self shine above, I have to let you all in on a little oopsie-daisy moment I had with my review for TVFanatic.com. In my original post I mentioned that Jason's dad must have been a big J.F.K. fan when I should have said F.D.R. In my head I was thinking "ask not what your country can do for you..." for some reason. A reader pointed it out to me and I fixed it. I had myself a real "Stackhouse moment" there..."like if a tree falls in the woods it's still a tree, ain't it?"
I looked like he did when he tried to walk into the Fairy Club after Sookie.
How bout when Sookie tried to unleash her flash hands in the club? Not since Plaxico's mishap at LQ had there been a worse misfire.
Also I was sad to not see an encore appearance from Jason's fairy lap dancer from the other week who I had since discovered was played by a lovely actress named Brianna Brown.
What an interesting twist it was, revealing the reason he and Sookie's parents were ambushed was due to a tiny drop of her blood. There have been several shots of the mystery vamp on the bridge that night. Who do you think it was? Russell? Roman? You can see on the right side that Jason ends up meeting whoever it is either in another dream or in real life.
Russell we know is a fan of Sookie's scent so the early money is on him. Either way, it was good to see him back on his feet finally, entertaining as always. While I fear we have seen the last of Roman and his Nike Golf collection, Russell will most assuredly fill the large spotlight that has deservedly shone on Christopher Meloni's character thus far this season.
Despite meeting the true death last night, Meloni is slated to appear in 11 episodes apparently so look for him to be featured in some flashbacks. Perhaps this is an indicator that he was the vampire who killed the Stackhouses?
And in case you missed it...only Russell could drop the Kardashians while being lead away by the Authority.
After tonight, is it safe to say Salome is the other traitor working inside the Authority and is it Lilith herself who she is helping? Salome wasn't too subtle about wanting to see Russell. Time and time again she tried to excuse herself to go continue her interrogation. Roman was uncorking the good stuff and she couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Side note, how bout the kiss she planted on Bill? I didn't see Eric getting any such love.
As for Lilith's involvement, that seemed to be what Nora was alluding to, didn't it? Either way we know what Eric thinks of the deified vampire, despite his sister's devotion to her.
I can't forget to mention Pam breaking up Jessica and Tara's fight and the way in which she dismissed Tara's actions as only Pam can...
Wrapping things up this week here are a few more odds and ends I just loved.
The one Obama mask wearer going "Yes we can" after shooting the vampire who was feeding on Hoyt.
Yet another great scene between Eric and the Authority's in-house tech support.
Eric also was great in the glamour scene. You had to love how he told Alcide to keep his paws off Sookie even if she ended up reversing the effects later on. He also though was instrumental in making that whole scene work and deceiving Authority Member call-sign 300, when he gestured to Sookie to just play along with Bill despite knowing she could not be glamoured.
You also had to love Bill telling her how he really felt while pretending to glamour her. Sookie had no choice but to hear him out.
With so much to discuss I could continue on with my ramblings, but I'd rather hear what you all have to say. So while I'm sure I failed to touch on some parts of the episode, I eagerly await your comments to discuss the ones I did mention and anything else you found to be noteworthy. For now though I need to just "rest my eyes" like Jessica did on the bar. Loved her "Slash" tee shirt!
First off pat on the back for me b/c NOOOOOOOO way Russell offs Roman without help and based on Jell's observation I beleive my 6/26 post "Never underestimate the power of a woman and although she seems to be following the Authority doesnt a part of you think MAYBE she is out for herself. History has tainted her name and human life was much WORSE to her than this life.. Does that sound like someone who wants to coexist with humans???"
ReplyDeleteTHe lesson as always HELL hath no fury like a woman scourned.. But what comes of this ? Eric & Bill are back in the cells but what about Eric's sister ? Is Salomee running things ? What happens with the Authority now?
So Sookie's power is finite?? Interesting the missfire was tragic but I have to admit she needed to be reeled in a little bit. THe day after finding Russell was awesome .. I mean her morning convo with a glamoured Alcide was awesome. Alcide going over the night in his head was money.. wait we were drinking and then .. and then and then .. OH BOY!! Did WE ?? I am sure no one in this chat has had that day after ??? Oh NO what did I do?? Just sayin..Loved her knowing what Eric did to him and fixing it and his reaction .. Russell EFFING EDGINTON ??? Great stuff...
Loved Sam doing the Schwarzenager Commando/Little Kid Jerry mCguire line " I smelled him coming.. I smelled fear" But the cross bow was pretty lame.. I mean a crossbow !!!Made me think of Teddy Beckerstead's dad in One Crazy summer..."Now when I take out their haleon cable and you can win this race..THe only way to win Theodore is to cheat.. Remember that"..
Loved Lafa's mom callin her son a moe, subtle but just insulting enough to hurt him... Also gives some depth to what Lafa has going on b/c she's been hearing and seeing the demons for a long time. Wonder if Terry seeks Lafa to try and break his FIREBALL curse.. ? and that will be last I say on that crap.
Obviously it is going to be humans vs vamps vs fairies vs wolves vs shifters?? I mean why wouldnt it ?.. get ready for the BON TEMP Royal Rumble!!! ...the real question is who is going to side with who and who is going to grab the folding chair and smash someone in the back on the head when they betray their teammate??
TEDDY Beckerstead!!! AMazing call Mute. "DAD I'M DOING MY LAPS!!!" How hot was Cookie btw? I def tukced a few into the waistband of my umbros back in the day to her. Backto the episode, someone made a great point on my review for TVFanatic.com asking how come the rest of the Authority Members just sad back as Russell killed Roman?
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is because they all are in on the deception and the rest of them served up Bieber as a decoy? If not I am very interested to hear some sort of explanation from A.Ball on what appears to be a ridiculous oversight on the show's part. My review btw on TVF pretty much mirrors the one I posted here. So if you'd like and or as a favor to me, go to http://www.tvfanatic.com/2012/07/true-blood-review-ready-to-die/ and leave me some props on my review please.
So right off the bat have to jump right in there and say that this had to EASILY be one of the best if not THE best episodes i have seen in @ least 2-3 seasons (what season are we on anyway?)....the post being as gnar as it always is comes as no surprise but Alan really took the "ball" and ran with it this week and is def slowly winning me back (srry i had to, i hate myself)
ReplyDeleteClearly the one thing that we all did care about and the most major part of the whole deal was Russel and Roman. I have to agree with my homey Mute that there is NO CHANCE that they kill Roman off this thing in Ep 5 and there not just going to show him in flashbacks either, if the guy was dead they woulda showed him exlpoding rt at the end. Basically what is going to happen is that they show him almost blowing up and the he will quickly convert back over either becauuse he is too powerful or there was some kinda mistake (ala blade the original when they try to kill off Deacon frost with the syrum but alas he is now too powerful. And in the spirit of the Tom hanks Motiff in this weeks's post i will send it w/ a "and thats all i have to say about that"
I think that we can all agree taht its salamone not Nora who is the trader but i'm not so sure about russel being the vamp that killed sookies parents, although that would make for the best side stories i just dont see it...cold EASILY be roman or even one of the boys in an interesting twist (maybe godderic) to really spice things up but then again "i'm not a smart man" (srry that;s the last one i swear)
As much as I LOVE the Pam/Tara/Jess storyline and coupled with the fact that soon enough we are REALLY gonna hate hoyrt and hopefully he dies, i really amd starting to hate stupid sooie and the fact that she's always shocked by her powers, i mean you have to think that that she has spent some time alone making her fingers glow by this point and prob has ALOT more control over it then she alludes too, i mean she would be stupid if she didnt no? As a matter of fact, where do we need to look to see that?...ok, srry.
"Obviously it is going to be humans vs vamps vs fairies vs wolves vs shifters?? I mean why wouldnt it ?.. get ready for the BON TEMP Royal Rumble!!! "....respect that call Mute, question comes down to who ya got?...you strike me as a hacksaw jim juggan type guy, banging people in the lower back w/ your 2*4 with your toungue hanging all over the place screaming "HOOOOOOOOO!" while i see myself as more of a jimmy superfly snucka coming off the top rope sneaking up on my pray from above, but thats just me. Obviously Troybolt would be more of a goldust type just being himself and creepin mofo's out all over the place. Leigh would be our elisabeth (RIP) the queen of it all and if we can ever get her back Mamma Vamp would be our linda...THE BOSS APPLESAUCE
Laffabrown wrote:"i mean you have to think that that she has spent some time alone making her fingers glow"
ReplyDelete(Insert self pleasuring alone time joke here)
i already did! that was the joke!.....gimmie more credit than that.
ReplyDeleteElisabeth as in the British Queen who refused to marry because she wanted to keep all the power to herself and destroy and behead people? I can live with that.
ReplyDeleteMaj props to Jell D killin it on TVF this week. That said, our little blog that could inspires far more creativity because we can say WHATEVER and that's probably why Jell's post was better than our usual boss's.
Great effing ep. Sookie is so sick of it all, love when she reminded Alcide of the night and was like "f*kin eric" and so casually/sarcastically muttered thank you! when Alcide recalled everything. Then she up and busted into the fairy club, with her fabulously retarded brother who was freaking out in the field "you fairy f*ckers took my sissy!" Jason and Sook are in denial about their parents. I think Roman is the one who killed them, 100%.
Everyone in the Authority is a liar, traitor, shady as shit. Salome is clearly numero uno, just dyingggg to interrogate Russell. And what's up with Lilith, are we gonna meet her? Bill and Eric got played so hard, they were just used to bring in Russell and aid in the overthrow of Roman.
So much happening on this damn show, I'd be mad if I didn't love it so much. Not even getting into the smoke monster bullsh. Glad Sam and Luna are alive, interested in who these Obama "yes we can" killers are. Reminds me of Pointbreak in a way. Grandma Martha is SUCH a WBH. Not even trying to be mean, but she's a little hard to look at.
Laffa needs to get out of his storyline and back to chillin with his cuz. Perhaps he can spruce up her wardrobe a little. I'm sure I'm forgetting a ton, like Alcide potentially twisting his new second, but there is just too much to cover!
Oh and I forgot to add more props for Jell naming his post after a Biggie album
ReplyDeleteThx for the props Leigh! What is a WBH though?
ReplyDeletedoes my profile have a pic?...and if som how hot do i look in it? 1-10....oh srry. So wait is there actually a chance that we do meet lilith?...no rt? isnt she basically like Kalee-ma in Indiana Jones and the temple f doom. yeah, that just happened. Also what is our consensus on romans death anyway?
ReplyDeleteI think our gang will meet her and when they do, they better listen to the immortal words of Short Round and COVER YOUR HEART!!! I do think Roman is dead. Remember we saw Russell's face splatter with blood. I know Roman is one bad mutha but if Russell couldn't find a way to bring Talbot back I don't know if a vampire can really come back from the true death, hence the name. It's sort of an either or situation, pass/fail, true/false, I don't think there is a "both A and B" or "All of the Above" option here.
ReplyDeleteAlso Leigh you mentioned on the TVF round table that you were surprised to see Alcide join the pack after being such a loner. I think his decision has to do with Debbie's death. He saw how abusing V took the woman he loved away from him. Recall how disgusted he was with J.D. the packmaster when he was looking over the dead werewolves he killed that were protecting Russell. They were more casualties of the V drug war in a sense. Alscide wants to get his people out the game of dealing V and rid them of all the collateral damage.
Yeah I think Alcide stepped up because he is a good guy and knew it was the right thing. Yes he's independent but he's also very loyal and caring.
ReplyDeleteA WBH = weather beaten ho. Like old, really worn in, leathery lookin, B who def spent too much time partying and doing bad things.
And no Laffa, your pic is blank. Get something up there.
